Borgo Paglianetto,
Marche region of Matelica, Italy

Born in 2008, Borgo Paglianetto organic winery stretches 29 hectares in the heart of the Marche region on the hills of Matelica. The company certifies organic both in the quality of the grapes and all the processes of winemaking in the cellar. Owners of the winery include Luciano Burzzechesse, Giovanni Battista Roversi, Pierandrea Farroni, Mario Basilissi, and Antonio Roversi. A main goal in this winery is to highlight the individuality of their specific vineyards, while producing wines of brightness and clarity. During vinification, they allow the range of soils, exposures and microclimates to construct the character of the wine.

Verdicchio di Matellica is much smaller than Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC. The latter appellation is known to produce fruit driven Verdicchios because it sits on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. This Mediterranean climate introduces more sandy soils. Contrastingly, Matelica is further inland, resting firmly in the Apennine Mountain Range, yielding more mineral complexity and floral driven wines with crisp and modern structures. This location involves more calcareous-clay soils with cooler nights.
